Monju Updates

無常  (mujo- impermanence/constant change)
Please excuse the long delay in updating the website. Since January, there has been so much world transformation, we do not know where to start. There are a many, many updates to catch up on, but we will only do a few here and save the rest for subsequent posts.

First and foremost, our dojo continues to be closed for the time being due to safety concerns at the church. This is likely to last into the summer. More updates will be provided as we get information.

In light of the space restrictions, we are now offering zazen on zoom. We are starting with a weekly zazen session on Thursdays at 7pm (our regular time) and hope to expand to other offerings as we build capacity. Please contact us if you are interested in joining us for zazen at

Finally, we are available for introduction to zazen for anyone new to Zen and stillness practice. Simply reach out!

More to follow.

New Year, New Practice

Happy 2020!

We are so excited to be back at the dojo and planning a new slate of programming for the next few months. As we decide on the final components of the calendar, I wanted to raise your attention to one event and a new piece of programming here at Monju. Mark your calendars for February 2 when we will have our first zazenkai (half-day of zen) of the year. Zazen will start at 2pm and end at 6pm.  Further details to come. If you are interested in participating, please send us a notification. There is a suggested donation of $15 for the zazenkai.

Additionally, we have instituted a monthly sangha meeting every 3rd Sunday of each month (unless otherwise planned). Our first meeting will be tomorrow (Feb 19) right after zazen ends. In this meeting, we will discuss the calendar as we make final decisions on the events and dates, some of the agenda items for this year (our Deshimaru translation project, our sewing practice, and practice sessions), and an open discussion about zen practice. I hope you will join us for zazen and for your sangha meeting. It is an opportunity for everyone to get to know each other and to talk about the ways Monju as a sangha can thrive for the year and beyond.

As always, doors open tomorrow (Sunday) at 3:30 pm with zazen beginning at 4pm. Looking forward to sitting with you!

With hands palm to palm,
